My third resource actually comes from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s News Bureau. The article was written by Janice Wisner in 2000. The article is about how Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company is donating $25,000 for the UW-Eau Claire Foundation and the new Jacob Leinenkugel College of Business Scholarship program. There would be six $1,000 scholarships over the course of five years. The reasoning behind donating this money and creating the scholarship program was because many of the business student graduates from UW-Eau Claire have worked for Jake Leinenkugel at the Brewery. The director of UW-Eau Claire’s American Ethnic Coordinating Office says, “By creating these scholarships, we pave the way for students of diverse backgrounds to pursue their education and position themselves to face the challenges that will exist in the workforce when they graduate.”
This article is very kairotic. It was written at the same time as the scholarship program was announced. Everyone, I’m sure, was very excited about this because it will help students with the financial part of things. The audience of this article is people in the Eau Claire area, more specifically people who attend or work at UW-Eau Claire because it was published by the UW-Eau Claire News Bureau. The purpose of Wisner writing this article is to talk about and explain a major event happening at the University.
I think that the article was very helpful in expanding on how the Leinenkugel Brewery contributes to the community. The fact that it was written by somebody at UW-Eau Claire may have a bias on it, but for the most part I got the feeling that Jake Leinenkugel was doing it to better the students and give them opportunities. Finding this article, I decided to just focus on the Leinenkugel Brewery and how it contributes to the community. I wasn’t able to find anything on the other two companies.
This is a great source to focus on how Leinenkugel’s affects the community. It may benefit you to even look into how to get these scholarships. Since you are going to do all of your research on Leinenkugel’s now, it may give you a better chance to attain one of these scholarships in the future. I believe it would be interesting, and also improve your research if you would look into the students from Eau Claire now working at the Leinenkugel’s Brewery to see how far they have gone in the company and what they have achieved.
That is super cool that they gave scholarships to the business school at Eau Claire. I thought that this was the right direction for you to go instead of going and trying to find more about other businesses. It seems like you are finding some really good things about Leinenkugel. I agree that this could be a biased article. Since you have focused on just Leinenkugel where do you plan on continuing you research? Do you want to focus on just the business aspect or move in a different direction? Overall I thought you did a great job on the blog post.
I found this post to be a very strong post for three reasons. The first reason would be that you have informed other readers and I about the scholarship program which is an important factor when looking at what the Leinenkugel company has done for the community. The second reason that I believe that this post was strong is that you connected that the article talking about the scholarship program as being kairotic. Being able to do that is an important skill when evaluating someone else’s work. And the third reason why I think that this was a strong post is that you mentioned that you had to narrow down your research question to just what the Leinenkugel Brewery did for the community. This brings a sense of focus and makes your research question easier to understand. Just by reading this post, I am now interested in what other things that Leinenkugel has done for the community on top of this great scholarship program for possible future workers of the Leinenkugel company!
Seriously it is very nice for a brewing company to give away scholarships for students. Very informative post you have here. By including information about students who got the scholarship might give a better impact for your source. this is one of my suggestion to you. I agree that this is a very good source to show that Leinenkugal did contribute to the community. But I wonder, who wrote this article because it makes Leinenkugal look really good.
