Resource #2

It has been hard to find things on all three businesses, but I haven’t had time to go to the library yet.  I might have to just do my paper on Leinenkugel Brewery.  I found a website, http://www.millercoorsblog.com/canoes-for-a-cause/, that tells of a stewardship program called Canoes for a Cause.  This blog was written by Lisa Shade in May of 2013.

The Leinenkugel family gets together and picks up trash and invasive plant species along the riverbank.  On May 11th, 2013, the Leinenkugel’s gathered more than 1,000 pounds of trash along the Chicago River.  The article also mentions another event called Friendly Float down the Chicago River.  That event raises money and awareness for the Friends of the Chicago River.  They also hold these events in Denver, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Madison, and Cleveland.

This source is a credible one because it is an article reporting what they do at these events.  It would be interesting to see how long they have been doing things like this for.  They are helping our waterways stay clean.  They made a commitment 146 years ago to water stewardship.  It is also interesting to know that one of the reasons Leinenkugel Brewery was established in Chippewa Falls, was because of the high water quality.

From here, I want to try to find information on the other two businesses I have looked at and look more into Leinenkugel Brewery and the events they hold.

  1. This seems like a great source for answering your question about what this business does for it’s community. Not only is it even happening right in this specific community, but spread out across the Midwest. I think it is weird, but awesome, that a commitment they made over 100 years ago is still being acted out today. Clean water is a very important resource, for a plethora of reasons, which is why I think this act for the community is a great one. It is especially important to work to keep water around here clean, if he original reason they started up here was due to the clean water quality.

  2. Add some more details from this website. It is lacking detail and rhetorical analysis of the site. Also, question the site. Could there be bias from the company? Could the creator of the blog work for the company? If she or he does, then they could be lying about those events to improve the image of the company. Watch out for website. You don’t know if the source is credible. Its just like Wikipedia, take the site with a grain of salt.

  3. I think that it is really cool how much information you are finding about Leinenkugel Brewery and the family. I would say if you can’t find anything else on the other businesses that this alone is a great topic. I would use more rhetorical context when talking about your sources. I also thought it was cool on how you discussed the connection between Leinenkugel and water. That to me was really interesting. What did you think was missing from this that would have helped in your research? I am curious to how the rest of your research goes.

  4. I think Aaron is right to question the investments and interests of Miller Coors’s website. Situating this blog post and thinking through its context and purpose would be helpful. I doubt the writer is lying about anything, but I imagine Shade has certain rhetorical goals with this post that should be thought about because they probably influence how she wrote about it.

  5. It is always very interesting to see how companies give back to the community through volunteering programs. It would be nice to see more information from your source and possibly provide quotes from the source as well. I though that the article was interesting but it would help the reader to provide more information in detail about the article which will then back up your claims of “the source is a credible one”. More detailed oriented material will provide for you as a researcher a stronger invented ethos to those reading your material.
