and I have a bit more pride about being from Iowa

with the caveat that I disagree with marriage being a state institution, it’s still good to hear this:

Richard Socarides: “Unlike states on the coasts, there’s nothing more American than Iowa. As they say during the presidential caucuses, ‘As Iowa goes, so goes the nation.'”

(I don’t think he’s trying to denigrate the coasts there, just appealing to the cultural narrative of “American” — as very problematic as that is.)
