note this from Mike Rose in Corbett, Myers, and Tate:

“when all these critics express their observations, they establish in the minds of some of their readers an essentially false sense of dichotomies: to write in a voice other than one’s most natural is to write inauthentically…” (203).

students might prefer more academic topics than personal ones because “This is the real thing” (196).
