Preface: I don’t follow sports. Haven’t really since I was in high school.
History: Growing up in rural Iowa, we got decent reception from Des Moines’s network stations, but my parents ordered a Network package through our satellite dish, and the stations were out of Denver. We’d watch network sitcoms an hour later than all my friends, and I quickly became a Denver fanatic: Nuggets, Rockies, Avalanche, and Broncos, while everyone I knew was into Chicago, Minnesota, St. Louis, or Kansas City.
Three weeks ago: Because every bar in Little Rock seems to show sports, I find out while at the Feminism(s) and Rhetoric(s) Conference that my old favorite the Rockies are in the playoffs. I am surprised. Back in the 1990s they were known for their homerun hitters and nothing else. Something’s changed.
Today I found out, after reading that some are rooting for the Red Sox in the World Series, that the Rockies are playing! I am shocked! I am fascinated. I kind of want to watch a game. But I’m sure I won’t (I don’t even own a television anymore).
You could always head over to Corvallis’ one sports bar and check it out….

Now who would be rooting for the Red Sox?
Maybe you? π
Maybe. . . I can’t forget that me sainted mother went to college in Colorado, though, so. . .
