perhaps a shift in focus?

There is something white, bourgeois, male, and straight (while in most discourse I prefer heterosexual because straight impliees that queer is a deviation, here I use straight because it implies the conformist tow the line style so indicitive of academic writing) about traditional academic writing. It is not necessarily that this type of writing should be abolished, but rather that it should be questioned and expanded to allow other types of writing (those that invite the female, the minority, the working class, the queer). Of course, this expansion has begun, but I don’t feel like it’s going far enough.

Hmmm…
