upcoming courses

I’m excited for my upcoming courses this quarter. I’m taking Advanced Composition, which will probably be the first class I’ve ever taken focused solely on writing, with the exception of the fiction writing course I took as an undergraduate at Iowa State. All the other writing courses I’ve ever taken had to do with pedagogy as well, so this should be fun (I love pedagogy, but this will be a nice change).

I’m also taking a New Historicism course, which should be interesting. I’ve honestly become less interested in literary theory over the last year, but I do love theory, and it’s a graduate-only course, so it should be engaging. I’ve heard there’s a lot of reading for the course, but that’s cool.

My third course is in the philosophy department: Feminist Philosophies. It should be interesting taking this, especially after my critical theory course last quarter. I imagine it will be engaging, and will give me a bit of a “who’s who” and “what’s what” in feminism, which I feel I know a lot about on the general level, but could use some in-depth study of. Everyone I talk to says they loved this course and it changed the way they think about life and themselves, which is an exciting thing to hear.

I’m not so excited that school starts back up in three days. I could use a few more days (weeks) of rest, especially after my long vacation to the Midwest that left me a little exhausted, despite that it was restful. I don’t think I’ll ever carry so many books with me on an airplane again; my back and shoulders are hurting, and I think it’s partially from the heavy luggage and partially from not sleeping in my bed (which my back has gotten used to and likes) for so long.
