google documents

Sara and I are using Writely to co-author our presentation at TYCA, and I am loving it. This morning we went online to work on it, and lo and behold, Writely had become Google Documents. It turns out, I’ve found from Kairosnews, that Google might be using Google Docs and Google Spreadsheet to vie with MS Office, which I find very exciting. The one drawback for some is that the program is entirely online, but that’s what I love about it. It reminds me of an article I read a few months back that contended that eventually, all our hard drives would be held online because that’s where our applications would be – and since I’m already using Google Docs, WordPress, and Blogger, I’m well on my way.

I guess I love my compy, though, so giving up it’s interface would be hard. I’m also a bit skeptical of Google eventually owning the world. I’m looking out for the “Google for President 2024 Campaign” after a few laws are changed…

In other, even more exciting news, I have a thesis topic!

As long as Writely continues to work as well as it has so far, I guess it’s OK that Google owns it. I’ve been pretty happy with Google so far. And as for the online-offline question, nowadays I rarely work on paper. Still, for those of us who have dial-up internet at home (me), working online does have a bit of a drawback. But the benefits of collaboration in Writely/Google docs are well worth it.

    What is your topic???
