re-themed blog

Tired of my old theme, which was boring me every time I looked at my blog, I installed a new theme today, human life in microcosm, which I am somewhat ambivalent about. The colors seem cool, but I wonder about readability (feedback welcome!), and although the skater is so punk (haha), I’m really ambivalent about him in the header. Might play with that if I get time later. On the bright side: the search function works on this blog for the first time in about a year.

I’ll have to work on this theme (fixing up some stuff, editing my photo credit page, etc.) some more sometime, but right now, I have homework to do!

  1. I think the readability is fine, although the link color is very slightly more readable than the regular text color.

Yeah, I agree with that. I might play around with those colors a bit. Thanks, Michelle!

It’s a rad theme. And the skater graphic is awesome. But I don’t know if it accurately reflects the content on here. Could be kind of misleading for first time visitors.

I think the contrast (or lack thereof) in colors between the text and the background makes it difficult to read (I do agree with the first comment, that the link color is more readable). But even then, I think it would still seem difficult to read to me.

The colors under the “Twitter Updates” seem even worse — the color of the tweet text is really hard to read against the orange background of the left bar.

I’m sure there are good usability guides online, but I make the most boring websites ever, so I haven’t looked for one in a long time.

But, hey, up the punk! with the skateboarder up top.

Thanks, Chris and Thomas. I’m considering nixing the skateboarder. Not really in line with my ethos, anyway.

I’ll try to get into the CSS and teach myself some stuff to fix some of the color issues. Thanks for your perspectives!
