On Thursday my blog turns two years old. I can’t believe that it’s been that long since I first started. I have over 470 posts and pages, which is a lot of writing and/or linking I’ve been doing over two years, and I feel pretty good about it.
How coincidental that the same week my blog turns two years old that it also gets hacked. To make a boring story short: A friend was trying to help me figure out why the “next” link wasn’t working on my blog, and he found an extra file in one of my directories that wasn’t supposed to be there. And if there’s one new file, there’s probably more. This file (or another one) was creating links on my blogroll to wonderful sites about viagra, etc., so I wiped everything from my webspace and re-installed my blog. My friend thought that perhaps my old theme wasn’t coded very well and so left the directory more prone to hacks, so he suggested that I get a new theme. I loved my old theme, but I think this one will do. I spent quite a bit of time looking for a new theme; who knew there were so many ugly, ugly WordPress themes out there on the Internet.
As far as I can tell, my site is safe once again. If it’s not, then that means something hacked my database, which does not bode well. Now, I need to update this theme so it’s not so ugly and more inline with my persona, hopefully.
Happy birthday! I like the new look.
Thanks John!
Nice banner – I like it. Very autumnal as well – the warm colors cheering us in spite of (because of?) the incipient darkness.
