In the third chapter of my thesis I argued that it was productive to view the zine (independently produced magazine) as a genealogical ancestor of the blog. For me, I was a zinester years before I was a blogger, and I found quite a few connections between zines and blogs. I’ve known for a while that Boing Boing started out as a zine, and today, I found on their website this post that includes an image from the first issue of Boing Boing from 1989 (image included here). There is a link to the pdf of the zine, but the link no longer works (which is a bummer).
I’ll probably upload a pdf of my thesis sometime this week, so keep on the lookout if you’re interested.
