Via Queerty.com, InventorSpot posts some fascinating AIDS awareness ads from Europe, including this one:
These ads are pretty shocking, and I especially like this one, for how emaciated and deathly Wonder Woman looks — and the statement below that “AIDS makes us all equal.” Some of these ads are pretty provocative (check out the links to Queerty and InventorSpot for more ads), including a series of ads with people engaged in sex acts with scorpions. I wonder, though, how effective they are at making people actually think about AIDS and to communicate and use condoms. This is especially a problem as AIDS isn’t getting as much attention as it used to, and I also think because of the mainstream notion that AIDS is a gay disease (despite afflicting mostly straight women). But of course, those are reasons to make the ads more eye-catching and provoking.
i hate this ad because is mean and hateful what is the hell wrong with you posting this pictuure wonder woman don’t have aids! ! ! ! this is not funny jerk
sign d’lisa
I have to wonder if you read anything I wrote below the ad.
Hahaha. Wow Dlisa, nothing gets past you does it?
Michael, I think it’s a wonderful post and I agree with you most emphatically about the attention and concern generated for AIDS victims, or rather, the lack of attention.
Thanks, Jeanea.
I agree with you, no one pays any attention to the disease now. It’s as if it has be came last years disease even tho it effects many people around the world
I don’t think that dlisa knows exactly what she is talking about. i very much agree with your post and i support the ad because it is shocking and it definitely caught my attention. You get a high five=)=)
I love the symbolism behind this add. No mater how strong you think you may be, AIDS affects everyone! Keep it going!
Wow thats one hell of a harsh ad!!!! I get the message for sure..and i hope it opens the eyes of everyone who are still ignorant to the facts, but i love Wonder Woman and i wish u would of used someone else.. i hate to be the guy that corrects but on the island of themiscrya they have the purple ray which cures and heals all amazons. unfortunately we dont have such wonderful equipment here so all of us non amazons have to be responsible
i find this NOT offensive. it attracts peoples attention and makes them aware of what is going on. also through the symbolism of wonder woman, it shows the viewer that EVERYONE can get this disease, it does not matter who you are, or how famous you are, in the end your still human and this IS natural disease. i really like the way this ad for AIDS is presented and portrayed. i have a strong passion for supporting people with AIDS.
