The topic for my research project is Ed Gein, a serial killer from Plainfield, WI. While looking over information on Gein I am really curious as to how and why he chose to keep certain things from women as souvenirs. When Gein was arrested they found many household items that were made from skulls or other pieces from women. I think this is something worth exploring, because Gein was not like other serial killers, he actually only killed two women, but dug up and robbed the graves of many other women. Gein was a rare case in Wisconsin because he had stretched the skin of his victims to cover furniture and to make a life like human jumpsuit to wear. I think it would be interesting to find out why he chose to keep certain pieces of the body and not others because these body parts were a huge factor in the Gein case. I currently do not understand why he kept these pieces because I haven’t found many articles that interview him or ask him about why he kept these. I think finding a source on his psychology would help answer this question.

I agree that finding a source by a psychologist on Gein’s behavior is a great way to go about finding why he committed such criminal acts. Maybe, you could find another case similar to Gein’s and compare the two and their ways of thinking through a psychologist’s perspective. Doing so may help you understand why such behavior was displayed by Gein and also give you a broader look at the way a criminal or mentally insane mind works. Also, I think it would be helpful for you to learn Gein’s childhood up until he was arrested. Maybe by taking what you already know about psychology, you can make guesses to what triggered him to be so cruel to women and their families.
I think that the topic of Ed Gein is a very interesting one because of the disturbing fact that this sort of thing happened in Wisconsin, where you are from. I think that you could tell me more as to why you are interested in the topic at hand, maybe tell me how you came across this, and what you would do to learn more about it. Maybe your goal could be to inform people and to teach them more about why this happened to him, and the circumstances he went through to create such a monster. An idea that goes along with this could be trying to find an article about his childhood regarding the psychological things that he went through to destroy his brain in such a dramatic way.
