My research question relates to why and how Wisconsin Friday night fish fries are so important to Wisconsinites and to our states culture. I am very interested in this topic because I grew up in a community near a lake where fishing was always a popular hobby. I also worked at a restaurant where Friday fish fries were a huge deal so this adds to why I am so interested in the historic side to Friday fish fries. I think this is a good topic for me to explore because I have traveled to Germany twice and I know that German influence in Wisconsin has a connection to fish fries as well as religious factors of the Catholic faith. I currently have a little background on this topic but I am excited to learn more about how small and large communities have been affected by this Wisconsin tradition.

I think this topic will be very interesting to learn about and i am excited to hear more about it. I think you have a good background knowledge because of your experience in Germany and the restaurant business. I think you should also include more information about how Wisconsin Friday Night Fish Fries relates to the Catholic faith and has a German influence. Because i am a Minnesotan, i am not used to the small town gatherings/festivals that are commonly held in Wisconsin and i find myself very interested in them.
I think that this is a good topic for you. You seem like you are very interested, and that you have some background on this topic. I know that you don’t know much about the Friday Fish Fries yet, but I am excited to hear more about the history behind it. Maybe you could look up who started it, and how it became popular. Also, if Friday Fish Fries did start in Germany, how did it get all the way to Wisconsin? That might be useful, maybe not…If you are struggling on finding information, maybe you could look up the history of Barbeques too. That might help you find out why people get together with friends to eat, and more specifically, eating fish on Friday.
I think this topic has a lot of different approaches you could include. For example, pick a couple locations that have been known for and popular for fish. Such as Door County, every time my family goes and vacations there we always attend a fish fry on Friday nights. Fish is popular in Door County probably because it is on the peninsula and surrounded by lakes. I would like to know if the location of a place may have an effect to whether or not fish fry’s become popular. As you mentioned, they were popular in your hometown but for the person who commented above me, they are from Minnesota and claim they were not exposed to many fish fry’s. I think you should include what sort of appeal it brings to people who participate in the fish fries, for me it was a fun way to be social and celebrate time as a family. I think it would be a nice touch to your research in answering why fish fry’s are important in Wisconsin.
